Security & Encryption
How we protect your files
Your Files Are Always Encrypted
Every file you share through Hirosend is automatically encrypted using AES-256-CBC with unique per-file encryption keys. No setup. No configuration. Just secure file sharing.
This is the same encryption standard trusted by governments and financial institutions worldwide.
Encrypted in Transit
When you upload or download a file, it's protected using TLS 1.3 encryption. From your device to our servers and back, your files are encrypted every step of the way.
Encrypted When Stored
Once your file arrives, we encrypt it before storing it on our servers. Each file gets its own unique encryption key. Even we can't see what's inside your files.
After encryption is complete, the original unencrypted file is permanently deleted from our servers.
Encrypted When Downloaded
When someone downloads your file, it's transmitted over a secure encrypted connection. The file is decrypted only when it reaches the recipient's device.
Malware Protection
We protect our platform from malicious content using privacy-preserving techniques:
- Cryptographic hash verification against known threat databases
- Automated detection without reading your file contents
- Only file fingerprints are checked — your actual files stay private
Additional Protection
Beyond encryption, you can add extra layers of security:
- Password protection for your shares
- Download limits to control access
- Expiration dates for automatic deletion
- Activity tracking to see who accessed your files
Compliance
Hirosend is designed with compliance in mind:
- Comprehensive audit logs for all file access
- Built with SOC2 and HIPAA standards in mind
- Data Processing Agreements available for business customers
